In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, we are spotlighting Dreamer Scholar, Jaime! He joined the #IHDFBoulderCounty family in 5th grade as a part of the Iris Class and graduated from Boulder High in 2016. Here is what he has to share with us:
“Being Latino, I have always embraced my roots. My family instilled humility in me, and I will never forget where I come from. In terms of being a Latino on a college campus, it is fairly difficult, but that never discouraged me from the main goal of graduation.
Being a first generation student makes me extremely proud of myself. Being the first to obtain a bachelor’s degree is a huge accomplishment, not just for me, but for my family as well.
In the future, I hope to be able to give back to my community because they helped me get to this point. I hope to inspire other Latinx students to pursue higher education. Like I said before, I won’t forget where I come from and all the people who helped me get to a 4 year institution. I aspire to do the same for the next generation.”
Jaime currently attends Colorado State University and graduates this December with a degree in Construction Management! In the near future, he plans on securing a job with a contractor and working on projects that impact the lives of others. We are cheering you on as you get closer to graduation and reaching your dreams, Jaime!
