Our work in a nutshell (Video synopsis)

At the "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. For nearly 35 years, we've been working to break down the systemic barriers that stand in the way of students from low-income backgrounds. Our approach is not a short-term fix; it's a long-term, comprehensive commitment to our students and their families.

We make this commitment beginning in 1st grade (typically) to cohorts, or "classes," of about 35 students.

We offer academic, social-emotional, and financial support from elementary school all the way through their post-secondary education. This journey, which typically spans 10 to 13 years, involves a holistic model of after-school academic support, mentorship, career planning, and social justice education.

We partner with local school districts and Boulder Housing Partners to identify students who can benefit most from our services. Upon high school graduation, each Dreamer has a $10,000 scholarship available to help them pursue their college or vocational dreams.

A very high value for us is a strength-based approach. We focus on the strengths of students, families, and communities. We see potential, and the bright future of every family we serve. We reject a mindset that begins with deficit, lack or less-than thinking.

Recognizing that a child's success is deeply connected to their family's wellbeing, we've expanded our work to include a two-generational approach. This innovative model makes resources available to parents and guardians with to assist them in achieving their own educational and career goals, such as earning a high school diploma or GED. Supporting the entire family accelerates the journey toward economic mobility and creates a ripple effect of empowerment and success. Our work is a partnership with the community, fueled by learning partners, volunteers, and supporters like you who are invested in building a more equitable future.
